Environmental Protection

SPC is dedicated to maintaining environmentally friendly products and manufacturing processes. As a leader in environmental practices within the coatings industry, SPC was one of the first companies to identify the harmful effects of VOC's or Volatile Organic Compounds on the environment. In addition, SPC was also the first Company to bring a 100% solids liquid coating to the marketplace. This innovation allows for the absence of VOC's, or Volatile Organic Compounds in our products.

VOC's are capable of producing ozone in the lower atmosphere by reaction with nitrogen oxides in the presence of sunlight. This photochemical reaction results in the formation of smog, which is often worse in the hotter months. The release of VOC's into the atmosphere is comparable, on the basis of its potential, to create ozone relative to ethylene. The conversion to ethylene equivalents is based on the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) "Responsible Care HSE Reporting Guidelines for VOC's (1998)."

Environmental conservation is at the forefront of every new coating product development. SPC products are designed to become inert in their catalyzed form. This feature ensures that there is no leaching effect from the material to the environment regardless of whether the application is sub-terrain or sub-sea.

Specialty Polymer Coatings is bullfrog powered with 100% green electricity. Bullfrog’s electricity in British Columbia comes exclusively from the Bear Mountain Wind Park which is certified as low impact by Environment Canada under its EcoLogoM program instead of from higher impact sources like large hydro dams or fossil-fuelled generation facilities.

SPC understands the importance of environmental integrity. That is why we innovate new technologies that continue to set our organization apart as a superior provider in the coatings industry. At SPC, innovation truly is our specialty.
